Dreaded Oil Warning Light

After thrashing my A30 down the M4 for a bit, maybe at 80ish, when i pulled off on a slip rd, then came to a halt in traffic, I noticed the dreaded oil light flickering on and off. After a while driving through town it didn't come on again at standstill. However, is this a pointer to the mains starting to go! It seems quite happy at this occasional speed, 1098 engine, metro unleaded head, 3.7 diff etc.
It had an oil and filter change 500 miles back, and I run it on 20/50. The oil is at max on the dip stick. No rattles from the engine, either when revved or at tick-over when I got it home.
Any thoughts greatfully appreciated. E
